Stone Needs River Freight Between Regions
In the County of Fortune demo, stone cannot be transported between regions by road. It is heavy freight and needs river transport through raft ports. Because demo rafts travel downstream only, the source region must have a usable downstream connection toward the destination.
The official demo FAQ explicitly names stone alongside logs, clay, and sand under this restriction. A road connection can be useful for other goods without making that road suitable for interregional stone.
Check the River Before Building the Supply Chain
Open Build a settlement and zoom into the river to inspect its flow. Do this while planning the regions, rather than after discovering that the destination sits upstream of the stone source.
The important question is whether the river actually connects the intended source and receiver in the allowed direction. Nearby riverbanks do not automatically establish a workable freight route.
This is also separate from obtaining masonry points. A Mason's Guild uses stone to generate masonry points; configuring a stone shipment still concerns the raw product and the regions that need it.
Build Raft-Port Endpoints and Add the Stone Route
Upgrade suitable settlements to level 2. In Buildings, choose the green Commoners icon and an available plus slot to access raft ports.
Once the regions have appropriate river endpoints:
- Open the trade window with the top-left button or T.
- Select stone as the good to transport.
- Choose add trade route.
- Select the source and receiving regions for the downstream trade.
Auto-trade is enabled by default and adjusts the traded amount to regional demand. The source still needs available stone, and the receiving route still needs the correct direction.
Diagnose a Shipment That Does Not Arrive
Check the stone source, the raft-port endpoints, the selected good and regions, and river flow. Do not assume that switching the route to auto-trade will overcome an incompatible direction or missing source stock.
A receiving raft port can accept lighter land goods from a source small market, but that is not a stone-road exception. Upstream and downstream sailboat transport is announced for Early Access ports; it should not be treated as an available demo workaround.
FAQ
Can I send stone across a regional boundary using markets and a road?
Not under the demo's stated rules. Interregional stone is heavy freight that needs river transport.
Can rafts return stone upstream?
No. Demo rafts travel downstream only.
What keyboard shortcut opens the trade window?
T opens trading, where you choose the goods and add a route between regions.
Is moving stone the same as trading masonry points?
No. Stone is the product used by a Mason's Guild to generate masonry points. Keep the raw-material route and construction-point production separate when checking supply.
