Auto-Trade Is the Default for a New Route

County of Fortune automatically enables auto-trade when you add a trade route. It adjusts the amount traded according to the region's demand. To use it, establish the required transport connection, open trading with T, select the goods, add the route, and choose the regions involved.

The official demo FAQ describes that demand-based behavior. Auto-trade manages the amount to move; it does not remove the need for goods, functioning endpoints, or a valid transport direction.

Set Up a Route That Can Actually Operate

Markets and raft ports become accessible through level-2 settlements. Land trade uses a market in each region with a road connection. River trade uses raft-port endpoints on a compatible river route.

Open the top-left trade button or press T, choose your product, select add trade route, and choose the regions for the trade. The new route begins with auto-trade enabled, so a player does not need a separately confirmed activation sequence before using the default mode.

For lighter land freight, the receiving endpoint can be a raft port if the sending region has a small market. Heavy products follow a different demo rule.

Check Supply When Demand Is Not Being Met

Demand-based quantities do not create missing stock. Inspect the source production chain and available goods. A building's listed production capacity is not evidence that it is currently producing at that level, particularly when an input is missing.

Then inspect the destination's actual needs and production use. For local settlement deliveries, roads must join the central market squares and the receiving recipe or equipment must be assigned.

If the goods are logs, stone, clay, or sand crossing between regions, they need river transport in the demo. Rafts travel downstream only. Auto-trade cannot make an upstream raft connection valid or turn heavy freight into a road shipment.

Use Current Quantity Periods, Not Old Assumptions

The FAQ also says you can specify the amount traders should transport instead of relying on automatically adjusted quantities. Its wording describes an annual amount, but later October developer updates explain that many previously yearly values now use monthly calculations.

Read the period displayed in the current trade interface before interpreting a manually specified amount. The supported distinction is demand-adjusted trade versus a specified quantity; the obtained material does not establish every current field label or a complete manual-control tutorial.

FAQ

Do I have to turn auto-trade on after adding a route?

The official FAQ says it is enabled automatically for the new route.

What determines the automatic quantity?

Regional demand, according to the official FAQ.

Can I specify a quantity instead?

Yes. The FAQ describes that option, but check the current interface's period rather than assuming the older annual wording is unchanged.

Why is auto-trade not moving my stone upstream?

Demo rafts are downstream-only, and stone needs river freight between regions. Quantity automation does not override those transport rules.
