Supply Equipment to Open Another Slot

If you have run out of new settlements to build, equipment offers another way to expand production. Supply a Peasant settlement with wooden chests or wool tunics to unlock its second building slot. You can then add another building inside that existing settlement.

This is the direct answer in the official County of Fortune demo FAQ. A settlement's starting building does not have to be its only industry.

Produce and Deliver the Equipment

Wooden chests come from a wooden chest workshop, while wool tunics come from a wool tunic workshop. Choose the equipment need in the receiving settlement and make sure a functioning producer can supply it.

Within a region, vendors distribute goods across roads joining the settlements' central market squares. The FAQ says distribution begins after the receiving food recipe or equipment is assigned, provided enough product is available.

Treat the following as separate checks:

  1. The workshop is actually producing equipment.
  2. Its required inputs are available.
  3. The receiving settlement is set to accept the equipment.
  4. The settlements have the required road connection and enough stock for delivery.

A workshop's presence alone does not prove that the target settlement has received its equipment.

Use the New Space for a Supply Bottleneck

The additional slot lets you add an industry without spending another settlement opportunity. Choose a building that suits the available resource ground and the goods your region needs.

For example, an equipment-supported settlement can help expand a necessary production chain or add guild capacity. The official maintenance advice specifically suggests unlocking slots in other settlements and adding a guild when existing carpentry production cannot keep up.

Do not assume that every building can operate on any site. The extra slot provides building capacity; the selected industry still needs suitable resources and a working input supply.

Keep Building Slots and Settlement Levels Separate

Unlocking an equipment-driven slot is different from promoting the settlement. A level upgrade requires the settlement's food and equipment consumption needs to be fulfilled, followed by the Level Up action.

At level 2, equipment also increases the maximum worker capacity in buildings. Higher-level buildings use the appropriate social-class tab. The October demo reaches Commoners at level 2; it does not provide the full announced Early Access progression.

Older community reports describe their own slot counts and equipment combinations. Use the official current-demo second-slot answer here without treating an older complete slot ladder as a verified universal table.

FAQ

What unlocks the second Peasant building slot?

The official FAQ names wooden chests or wool tunics supplied as equipment.

Do I need to create another settlement for every industry?

No. Equipment unlocks space for additional buildings in existing settlements.

Why has the slot not unlocked even though I built a workshop?

Check actual production, inputs, the receiving equipment selection, road connectivity, and available stock. The equipment must reach the settlement.

Is unlocking a slot the same as leveling up?

No. Slots expand building space, while leveling requires fulfillment of food and equipment consumption needs and the separate Level Up action.
